“Good afternoon to all the fitness warriors out in the world. I just want to let you know as a fitness guru since the early 2000’s, I have trained with many fitness trainers and the biggest goal for ourselves and our trainers would be bulking up fast. No matter what the body says to you, fight through the pain and you can achieve strength, look amazing, lift heavy.
I injured myself with this concept and that was it. I had major shoulder issues; I could not lift my shoulder over my head and sleeping was a nightmare. I have known Fred Meyers for many years, he is a Licensed Paramedic and a Licensed Personal Trainer and part owner for Greenwood Fitness. I told him about my injury and what problems I was having. My biggest gripe was that I could not lift heavy weights anymore and I had given up because this pain meant surgery.
Fred was training a very good friend of ours and he kept asking me to come workout. When I finally did take him up on his offer, he let me know immediately it will take time to overcome this injury and surgery is not always necessary. I started the journey with Fred by getting a good journal to him, what I wanted to accomplish and where my aches and pains were located. Shortly after we started very low impact training with hardly any weight; mostly cardiovascular, endurance building with many stretching exercises to get my old beat-up body to loosen up. The weights we used were very light and I was really wanting to lift heavy, but I gave him a chance to work his magic. Fred advised the weights, and the strength would come in time. A phrase that Fred uses, and I am now a firm believer, is, “Listen to your body, it will tell you what’s wrong”. In all aspects of this phrase, if your body says “no” by producing pain, then stop what you are doing. Our workouts began with stretching, we stretched between sets, and we stretched after the workout. He researched workouts that would benefit me and schooled us on proper proteins to assist in muscle recovery.
It has been 4 to 5 months since I started training again. I have made milestones to where people I work with have seen a difference in attitude and body composition. I have full range of motion to my shoulder, and I attribute this to him constantly keeping aware of the point of injury and having me perform the proper exercise to strengthen and pack on “muscle padding” to cushion these shoulder problems I had.
Fred takes into consideration what your weak points and strengths are and holds them together to build quality muscle, help assist in healing injuries and decrease the chance of reinjury. I appreciate him taking the time to pace until he thinks I am ready to go to the next level. My strength has increased, I am lifting with proper form, the aches and pains are slowly leaving, but they are subsiding. The proper weight techniques I have learned make me listen to the body and workout safely.”
